Terms of use

What you agree to by using Bitwright.

Written to be read. If anything here is unclear, ask and it will be rewritten rather than explained.

1. Who you are dealing with

Bitwright is run by an individual in the United Kingdom, trading as Bitwright. It is not yet a company. When these terms say we, that is one person, and when they say you, that is whoever is using the site.

You can reach us at hello@bitwright.app. That address is read by a person and is the right place for anything in this document.

2. Your account

Signing in means giving an email address and opening the link we send to it. There is no password, so anyone with access to your inbox can sign in as you. Keep your email account secure, and tell us if you think somebody else has used yours.

You must be at least 13 to use Bitwright, and if you are under 18 you should have a parent or guardian's permission. One person, one account. Do not share an account to get around an allowance.

3. The sprites are yours

We claim no ownership of anything you make here. Sprites you draw with an account are yours to use, change, and sell, including in commercial games, with no licence fee, ever. A credit is not required, but it is very welcome, and it is how a small tool gets found.

There is no exception to this. Every sprite is drawn on an account, which means somebody has agreed to these terms before anything is made, and the licence above covers all of it from the first draw onwards.

Two things worth knowing about AI output generally, because they are true of every tool of this kind and not specific to us:

  • Copyright in purely machine-generated work is unsettled in most countries, so we cannot promise a sprite is protectable. What we can promise is that we will never claim it.
  • Similar descriptions can produce similar sprites for different people. We do not promise anything you make is unique.

You are responsible for what you ask for. If you describe somebody else's trademark or character, the result may not be yours to use, and that is your call rather than ours.

4. Allowances and paying

Drawing a sprite costs us real money, so it is the thing that is counted. Everything else, including editing, exporting and downloading, is unlimited on every plan.

How you are using itWhat you get
Free accountFive credits, once, when you sign up. The whole tool, and a commercial licence.
CreditsOne credit draws one sprite. They do not expire and they are not a subscription.

The five you get on signing up are a one-off and do not renew. Credits you buy are yours until you spend them: there is no monthly reset, no lapse and no standing charge, and closing your account gives up whatever is left on it.

No card details are held on this site at any point. Payment is taken by Stripe, and the statutory fourteen day right to cancel digital purchases applies unless you ask us to supply immediately and waive it, which is spelled out at the point of sale rather than hidden here.

Prices can change. This is early and what a sprite costs to make may move, so we reserve the right to change the price of credits, the size of a pack, and what a free account starts with. Credits you have already bought are not touched by any of it: they stay on your account until you spend them, whatever the price does afterwards. A change applies only to purchases made after it, and the price shown at checkout is the price you pay.

A connector draws against your credits. Anything drawn through one is yours on the same terms as anything drawn on the website, and one draw spends one credit whichever way it was asked for.

5. What is and is not promised

Bitwright is provided as it is. It is a small tool run by one person and it is early. Specifically, and plainly:

  • It can go down. There is no uptime guarantee and no support commitment. It depends on Cloudflare and on Anthropic, and if either has a bad day so does this.
  • Sprites are stored in your browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data deletes them and we cannot get them back. Export anything you care about.
  • The output is unpredictable. A model draws these. It will sometimes misunderstand you, and an allowance spent on a sprite you did not like is still spent, because it cost us the same either way.
  • The format may change. Shapes and kits can be added or altered while this is young, which could mean an old spec renders differently or stops rendering. Exported images are unaffected.

Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under UK law, and nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost work, lost profit, or anything indirect, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months, which for now is nothing.

6. Stopping

You can stop at any time. Deleting your account removes it, its sign-in records and any credits left on it, which are given up rather than refunded. Records of anything you paid for stay at Stripe for six years, because tax law says they must. The privacy policy sets out exactly what goes and what stays.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks the acceptable use policy, that is being used to abuse the allowance system, or that is costing us money in bad faith. Where it is reasonable to do so first, we will say why and give you a chance to reply. Sprites you have already exported remain yours.

7. Changes, and the law

These terms will change as the product does. The date at the top tells you when they last did. If a change matters to you, for example one that affects what you pay or what you own, we will email everyone with an account rather than quietly editing this page.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK you keep the right to bring a claim in your own courts.

Customers outside the United Kingdom. Bitwright is available internationally. All prices are stated and charged in pounds sterling. Any currency conversion, and any fee applied in respect of it, is a matter between you and your card issuer, and forms no part of the price charged by us. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any consumer right conferred on you by the law of your country of residence which may not lawfully be excluded.
